If your console chart in the Google search engine looks like a crocodile with your mouth open, and clicks fall when the sensations rise, here’s why.
The implementation of artificial intelligence reviews now creates two options that the content assesses the impressions for a given keyword, while reducing the number of people who click on the results of search results (SERP).
If your boss gives you difficulties, it’s really not your fault. As Article on Niemarund confirms that this is something observed in the industry (comments to my last Post LinkedIn also confirm this).
And we have influence. Here’s what it looks like on the Ahrefs blog, through GSC report at Ahrefs:
During the six months at the end of 2024, daily impressions and clicks for the Ahrefs blog showed a positive correlation of 0.425. Clicks and sensations usually increased together. You can see it in the graph above: both lines usually move up and down in the tandem.
In the first six months of this year, this correlation has radically changed to negative Correlation -0.352. Now, when the impressions are growing, clicks usually decrease at the same time. The impressions are growing and clicks are falling. Clicks and sensations have been separated from each other – one can develop while the other will fall.
From what Darwin Santos is perfectly called “Great separation”. One of the few demanding and rapid SEO rules is gone. Thanks to Google.
Impressions are growing because the AI review now gives companies two chances of logging in to the impression for a given key: once as a “established” blue link in search results and Again As a quote in the AI review.
Most of the quotes of the Review of Artificial Intelligence seem to be pulled out of the content that is already in established search results (on one examinationIN “Three quarters of links cited in the Google AI review appear in position 12 or newer in organic search results”).
If your content is already enough to earn a decent number of organic impressions, there is a good chance that you can also quote it in the AI review and get the impressions there.
At the same time, clicks are decreasing because the review of artificial intelligence is increased by the search for zero click. Searchers can get all the information needed to solve the query without leaving the search results page.
When we studied it on a scale in 300,000 keywords, we found that the presence of AI review correlates with a reduction in the clickname rate by 34.5%.
So, at the same time when the impressions are growing, clicks are at the lowest level.
The period of this expanding gap between clicks and impressions corresponds to a immense scale of implementation of AI reviews. In addition to the March Core update, we found that the presence of AI reviews doubledIncreasing by 116% – the same time appeared these “mouths of crocodiles”:
And how Indicates Patrick Stox from AhrefsSites with very few reviews of artificial intelligence do not have the same pattern:
A great detachment will probably be continued until the end of AI reviews – but now it seems likely that AI mode will happen Default search sensationsIt is possible that this trend can be continued.
You can operate SERP functions The filter to see exactly where they run the AI review for keyword rankings.
Go to Ahrefs’ Page explorerGo to Organic keywords Report and choose AI review From the SERP function filter. Filter for keywords in which your domain is placed Item: 1-10And you will see keywords that will most likely get impressions from both ecological rankings and an review of artificial intelligence:
When I do this for Ahrefs, I see over 19,000 keywords that evoke AI review AND Take into account Ahrefs to the ten best results:
By using the up-to-date AI AI visibility tool, Radar Brand, you can then filter our AI review database to see those that contain a link to your URL:
Here I see over 5000 keywords that contain Ahrefs as a quote. All keywords that appear here AND In the previous report, they will probably suffer from increased impressions and reduced clicks, attracting double both in organic results and the AI review.
Final thoughts
For years I saw hundreds of GSC accounts and until recently I have never seen such a pattern. Now it is everywhere.
In the past, the boost in blog traffic seemed well correlated with business growth. But today I see that this correlation weakens. This is not the case of one bleeding blog – this is a whole industry Real time calibration.
But that’s not all destruction and darkness. While our clicks are refueled due to AI search, the latest Patrick Stox data show that – at least on the Ahrefs website – visits from Ai Search Convert 23x better than visits from established search.
The way the content marketing functions is very different, but guess what? There are more potential customers in the world, greater demand for products and services. This is a real determinant of growth, not clicking on the blog. We will find different ways to reach these people.
(But we should probably change our traffic growth goals …)
