Google did it so that you can’t track clicks from AI mode

Google just has implemented AI mode for us users.

I tested whether clicks will display in the Google search console, but they are not displayed. AND Post author: Tom Critchlow on LinkedIn I wondered how clicking the link in AI mode will be registered in the analysis.

TL; Dr. is based on the fact that clicks to links in AI mode are not recorded in the Google search console at all and do not send values after clicking. They are treated as unknown or direct, depending on the analytical system.

This is a large problem if we do not have the correct assignment. Does Google not want us to follow them?

Here is a test that I repeated several times to ensure accuracy.

Select the URL address that has no traffic on your website and paste it into AI mode. It will generate certain information and link to the URL that you can click.

After clicking, I checked Ahrefs Web Analytics for a page that contains information in real time, but you can check on Google Analytics or any analytical program you employ.

As you can see below, it is classified as from an unknown location. In other analytical systems, such as Google Analytics, it shows this directly.

What’s going on?

The link itself is marked with noreferrer in the page code. You can verify this using an inspection in the browser. This means that the value of the command is deprived of, which leads to treatment as an unknown.

As I mentioned earlier, for the last few days I have tested several pages to see if clicks to links in AI mode will be displayed in Google search consoles. Unfortunately, the answer is not.

Here is one of the yesterday, in which I searched “What are the accelerated mobile pages from Ahrefs?” and clicked. As you can see, I don’t show clicks in GSC.

Looking at the code, I see normal tracking information that indicates where and how the link and ping are displayed, which in my opinion sends it to Google tracking systems.

Although the link has been marked, the data does not seem to be in the Google search console. However, this may indicate that tracking AI will soon appear, perhaps as a separate classification.

Final thoughts

The assignment is crucial and we don’t have it yet. It suspects me that there is something that Google does not want us to know this movement. Is it so bad for website owners that they won’t even show us?

I hope that Google will remove tag noreferrer from these links so that they are properly recorded in analytical systems, and I also hope that we will receive data for AI mode. For now, remember that this data is missing in GSC and incorrectly classified in the analysis.
