Inside the industry worth $ 32 billion transforming marijuana

METHODOLOGY

The Up-to-date York Times examined sales data from two data from the cannabis industry, BDS and the headphone set, from October 2023 to September 2024. Because the rankings of both companies differed slightly, times looked at all brands contained in the best of 20 years -24-24 in total brands.

Then the reporters located the page of each brand on weeds if it is available. Four were excluded because they were not present on weeds, their offers lacked descriptions specific to the product or had very few products.

In November 2024, Times downloaded the entire catalog of Weedmaps products for each of the other 20 brands: a set of data containing almost 18,000 products. The Times identified dozens of keywords related to medical and health, which appeared in the descriptions. For each brand, reporters confirmed that keywords were used to suggest that products can support treat specific health problems.

After contacting the brands for a comment, The Times again examined the descriptions of weeds for all products in the initial analysis to determine whether any of the health -related language was removed.

Weedmaps lists do not necessarily contain all products sold under a specific brand and can reflect some items that are no longer widely sold.

The Times conducted a separate analysis of health claims on the Stiiisa website, focusing on its guides on individual hemp strains. Each guide contained the flavors of the strain, alleged effects and conditions in which it “helps”. The Times programally identified 82 of these guides in December and January, based on Website mapand separate conditions listed in each of them.
